BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION

  • United States Citizen
  • Must be at least 21 years old by completion of Academy (Sept. 2024)
  • Completion of High School Diploma or GED
  • Must have valid Driver's License
  • Sound physical & mental condition
  • Have not been dishonorably discharged from the U.S. Military
  • No felony convictions
  • No misdemeanor convictions in the past 3 years
  • Drug usage may disqualify - No drug usage within the past year
  • No transportation of illegal drugs

1. Run 1.5 miles in under 15 minutes and 14 seconds

2. Complete 27 or more sit-ups in 60 seconds

3. Complete 15 or more push-ups in 60 seconds

4. Spring 300 meters in under 71 seconds

After completion of Physical Fitness Exam, you must successfully pass the Written Exam.

Physical Fitness Exams and Written Exams will be administered on the same day. You will also be required to submit your personal history statement completed and with all supporting documentation prior to taking your Written Exam.

NEXT LCPD ACADEMY IS SCHEDULED TO BEGIN APRIL 22, 2024

The Basic Law Enforcement Training Academy Program of the Las Cruces Police Department is conducted in two parts: first a 22-week training academy in which the recruit receives more than 1,000 hours of instruction in academic and skills training by certified instructors; second, after graduation from the academy, a 14-week Field Training and Evaluation Program that places the officer-trainee with various field training officers on all three patrol shifts for training and evaluation.
